Overview

This aircraft has a configuration of 16 First Class seats, 48 Economy Plus seats, and 96 Economy Class seats. United's B737-800 aircraft serve routes within North America. This version features United's current Economy Plus class of service featuring up to 5" of extra seat pitch. Row numbering is not sequential aboard all of United's 737 fleet in order to standardize the exit rows as 20 and 21.

I used to enjoy flying United, but those days are over. There are no outlets in economy seats. The seats are so unbelievably narrow and squashed together that I can't even properly open my computer. I am 5'2" and I am unconfortable, I cannot imagine what it is like to fly in these seats if you are taller. Also, the in flight entertainment system was broken. This is my second united flight in a month that has had a broken entertainment system. I will avoid this airline whenever possible going forward. I've had a much better experience with Delta of late (normal seat size, free on demand entertainment, outlets in economy seats).

This is a terrible first class product. There is no IFE of any kind on this plane (and old B737) which is ridiculous for a flight from SFO to LIH. The seat was old and uncomfortable, with no lumbar support at all - it had long ago collapsed. I rolled up the blanket they provided - there was no pillow provided - and put it behind my back. The crew was good. The first class lav was tiny - much more narrow than any lav I'd experienced before. Just an embarrassing product to sell as first class.

Rest rooms on these 737 800 by United are disgusting. They are too small for even a child to use alone. If a parent goes in with the child - forget it. The sink is so tiny that the water continually splashes onto the floor looking like everyone has peed on the floor. The flight attendants finally gave us trying to clean the floor and locked the restroom. The arm rests carry the controls for the TV screen...and the way they are positioned, they are easy to turn on or off as your arm moves across the switch. Who designs these things? This is amateur work. United should be ashamed of the way they designed this plane. It's an awful experience.

The lav has a deep bump-out into the lav space where seats 37D-E-F presumably recline into the wall. The lav is the smallest I have ever encountered on an airplane, no exaggeration. I would recommend against any seat on this plane because of this issue.

If you own shoulders, especially a shoulder on the right side of your body, do not select this seat. The misaligned window combined with the lack of reclining makes this a particularly uncomfartable seat. It actually sits more erect than your average seatbacks full up position. BAD SEAT!!

one of the worst experiences flying. They have crammed the seats in so much that if the person in front puts their seat back ones face is about 12" from the seat back let along my knees being right up against the seat. Service was good but simple. I don't understand why they have to cram so many seats in. This is worse than travelling Greyhound bus in the 70s! We were in the row in front of the exit seats and one would think they would allow the seat to go back further than the others but no!

Worst Flight ever - the seats are supper narrow. The guy in the middle had wide shoulders and took half of either seat on his side. Only 2 bathrooms in the back for the whole economy and super tiny. Long lines blocking the aisle.

Seat size (34D) horrible: No leg room; knees were pressed painfully for 3 hrs into the seat in front; & endured constantly blinking screen less than 15 inches from my face, unable to turn it off due to arm-rest controls broken. Have flown 100s of flights & not exaggerating when say this one of worst experiences flying! Cannot understand how UA believes full-grown adult (63 195 lbs.) can fit comfortably & safely in seat barely large enough for a 5 year old. Wife (54 140 lbs.) equally uncomfortable in 34C. Unfortunately, seat size not only problem, here list of concerns: - People in neighboring seats were pouring over their seats into ours - again, seat size. - No room to store small things in seat backs. - Service abysmal, appearing that FAs not care about passengers. - EVERYTHING was an up-sell (better seats, food, bag check, etc.). - Plane not cleaned before boarding. - Bathrooms filthy. I cleaned the lav once & my wife, twice disgusting! - Most ignored Pre-Flt Safety Announcement, talking over video so loudly it was impossible to hear. Staff did nothing to mitigate this. - Noise level in cabin was ear-popping levels: baby crying, people yelling, etc. - AC was blasting & frost-bite level. Unless flying 1st Class (& even that no longer gtd), I would not expect to be comfortable on this or future UA flts. It is apparent to me that airlines like UA have relegated us to mere numbers on your balance sheets, with little regard to customer care & comfort. I do NOT plan on flying UA again.

This seat is right behind the bulkhead , so there's actually less leg room then there would be in econony despite this being a first class seat. So if you are tall, stay away from the first row on this plane.

Standard economy seat with limited leg room. The flight to Roatan was almost three hours. I am 6"4" 280#...my knees couldn't fit behind the seat in front of me. I had to watch out for the drink cart the whole flight. Strange because on the was down to RTB I had seat 32C and felt like it had enough leg room

This plane should have been retired 20 years ago. It's no comfort to know that it's been retrofitted so many times that the plane's virtually a different model. Comfort is no concern flying a 737-800: there isn't any. Avoid this plane if you can, get the very best seat available if you can't. And hope for a short trip.

Flew to maui in economy preferred and returned in economy. This is worst plane i have ever been in. Only two rear restrooms in resr of plane and no leg space in 31d. Will never fly this type of plsne again. Aldo uniteds srlf check is awful..did not print bag tags twice both ways.

worst leg room ever experienced on a flight. I sat next to the window in a row of three across and was so claustrophobic on a 7 hour flight, that I could barely manage it. Did not even attempt to use the restroom - could not begin to get out of the seats. This was worse than flying on the lowest of the budget airlines. United should be ashamed.

31D is a very uncomfortable seat in the economy section of the plane: very tight. Your face is very close to the monitor/screen that is right in front of you, I could not not turn it off, and neither could the flight attendant when I asked. There is also very little leg room.

The jet is an atrocity. The plane was worn down with paint chipping on the outside and inside of the plane. There wasn't one good thing I can say about this jet aesthetically. It's embarrassing to fly in a jet this worn down. Of course, they send this plane from Honduras to Houston. This plane deserves to be scrapped. If you're flying to and from Honduras, make sure you take another airline of you're looking for modern conveniences.

This seat was so uncomfortable, I am skinny (130 lbs, 5'9") and I felt incredibly cramped. There is no benefit to being in economy plus. There are no screens and there was no window. Absolutely hate united.

TPA-EWR, seats 7ABC&D. Great bulkhead seats. I sat in 7A. However, the divider curtain was bothersome to passengers sitting in the aisle seats, 7C & 7D. Also, the lavatory is far back and economy passengers are not able to use the one up front.

This seat was comfortable in width (and I weight just about 320lbs) so most people would be very comfortable in this space. I felt the seat could use a little more cushioning. The leg room was okay (my boyfriend is 6'3" and he was fine). The tv screens are nice however one of the buttons on mine kept getting stuck and shifting through channels. The OK or Select button didn't work 80% of the time, and sometimes my body would hit it and it would start changing channels but I couldn't get it to stop even when I moved away from it. Very odd place for it to be. Our flight was delayed by an hour after scheduled take off due to de-icing process in Denver, but we landed only 20 minutes later than scheduled, so that was a nice surprise.

I had the last row -- 37 -- and it was the WORST! I'm 6'4" and the FAs told me to move my leg out of the way of the cart. My legs exceed the space available and I had no room b/c my bag was there b/c there was no space in overheads. They are taken up by O2 bottles, etc. I wish I could post a pic. They should not sell these seats.

It's a long long walk to the JOHN in the tail of this aircraft. It's especially difficult when the service cart is blocking the aisle and the Steward doesn't want you to use the JOHN in the First Class area. I gave him a choice. Let me in or I'll water your carpet.

Seat 7A is great. Because the bulkhead doesn't come all the way down, you can store your small stuff under the First Class seat in front of you. Economy Plus pitch is 35", and probably a little more in this seat because of bulkhead. Very comfy for flight I took from from RSW-IAH.

As a 6'3" 250lb guy, I found this seat to be extremely uncomfortable, especially with the wing exit door protruding into the cabin. I ended up switching with a smaller woman in the middle seat and had a more comfortable flight. The legroom makes all the difference so I know what to do next time if I can't get the aisle.

7C and 7D are amazing! Huge leg room. With the seat reclined it was easily the most relaxing economy seat I've had. Minor problems: far from lavatories, tends not to get much flight attendant attention since it's the very front of the section. But those are small quibbles. On an ANU->EWR flight it was very nice. If it's available, you need to uograde. It's basically better than first class legroom.

This is a great Economy Plus seat with fantastic legroom. My only complaint is the depth of the new seat cushion which is a cost-cutting measure that is detrimental to the comfort of the passengers. I brought my own seat cushion which provided a bit more support and helped eliminate the uncomfortable short slope of the seat.

Seat 4F is one its face a nice first class seat. It reclines the same degrees as all of the seats in first class, and the food and service were fine. The problem is the seat is freezing. My toes were about to fall off it was so cold and the things in my bag under the seat were frozen. The seat is beside the window and there is a large vent right at your feet. I would not recommend this seat for this reason

UA 2013 on 12/29/16 All of row 4 has nearly any recline at all -- 4A and 4B have slightly more recline than 4E and 4F but not by much. Additionally 4E has half the under seat storage as 4F due to the entertainment box under the seat. Should be marked RED

Although UA sold this seat as a reclining exit row seat, there was no recline. The seats in row 21 were more expensive than the seats in row 20 because of the recline, but the product was identical. I also found the width of these seats to be cramped, however the leg room was fantastic.

I flew to Atlanta on an Airbus 320 and had the option to watch TV or a movie on my iPad, and it was great. There were many free options available. On the way back, I was on a 737-900ER with the entertainment system in the seat back. BIG MISTAKE!!! There were no free options and nothing was available for the iPad. While I was watching the news on the free trial, all of a sudden, the channel started changing. Why? My wife was using the armrest as, believe it or not, an armrest. Who puts the controls right where you put your arms? Very poor design and lack of choices for inflight entertainment. Most passengers fly with smartphones or tablets, so we don't need to pay for inflight entertainment. Epic fail.

I had a nice travel and had a lot of legroom, the only issue was the sun.. if you travel from south to north on the morning you will have all the sun from the window and is really hot and annoying (even if you have the window closed). Nice crew, nice service. What I love from this seat is that you have the window just next your head and you can see outside without problem.

Simply the worst flying experience. United is the same as the other 2 main US carriers. They charge you for everything including Inflight Entertainment. 9 USD for watching the TV while Aeromexico Inflight Entertainment is free. Food is limited and VERY EXPENSIVE! Unlike the 3 major US airlines, Aeromexico and many other international airlines offer free complete meals on flights longer than 3hrs. United is already very expensive and they still ask for more with onboard amenities?! United, Delta and American Airlines should be ashamed of themselves. Flying is already very expensive and I think that price should include Inflight Entertainment for free and free meals regardless the flight length. I will try to avoid ALL US AIRLINES and fly other airlines instead. I'm glad Aeromexico is the main airline I fly with. I flew United because it was my only option but from now on I will only fly Aeromexico when its the option, even if its more expensive than Delta, United and American Airlines.

Flew from LAS to EWR in first class. Worst first class experience. The flight out had seatback video, the return flight 1075 had NO entertainment at all, which made for a very boring flight, the service was not the best for first class, seats were your standard first seats.

This is one of the worst setups vis-a-vis leg room I've ever encountered. I'm 6'2", 34" inseam, and usually just fit in economy seats. Not this time! Knees jammed hard against plastic cutout of seat in front...seat back is already right in front of your nose without recline. 28F window is aligned and has behind-wing view.

One of the worst planes to be in, if you fly Economy. Leg room and quality of seats is absolutely horrific. Shame in Boeing for designing such a terrible plane and shame on United for buying so many and subjecting people to almost inhumane seating conditions. Thankfully, i almsot always get upgraded to Economy Plus which makes the flying experience in this terrible ariplance tolerable. If you have to fly Economy, avoid it like the plague.

The flight was Quito to Houston; nearly 6 hrs leaving at midnight. The last row of seats in 1st class had virtually no recline - this is in the 4-row first class - do not accept seats in this row! Im 5'5" and couldnt get comfortable. There were no headphones, no pillows, tiny frayed blankets. United should be ashamed of themselves!

An excellent seat although not what was requested by the booking agent.The flight, however, was marred by an incredible mixup at check-in.Despite having confirmed bookings (we were from New Zealand returning from Washington DC) we were told we might not get on as the plane was overbooked! Full marks to the lady on the desk who was clearly in a difficult position. After offering inducements to other passengers to give up their seats she finally got us all (7) on! Somebody said this was a common occurence with United. My god!

Avoid this aircraft!. I'm 5'8" and there was 1 inch between my knees and the seat back in front. The seat cushion is so short that there is no thigh support. Cushion is completely flat (no contouring) and material causes sweating. Arm rests are hard plastic. DirectTV controls are on top of armrest so your elbows hit them and change the settings. Under-seat space in row ahead is very shallow so I could not put my feet behind my backpack as I normally can. Space on either side of backpack was very tight; my shoes would hardly fit.

The entire plane just felt claustrophobic. The seat pitch was the worst and I'm 5'3". I had the aisle seat but could not get up easily. The front seat pocket was not usable at all. There was barely any room for your legs or feet. People kept spilling their drinks and other items because there was literally no room to move. The recline was even poor--which goes hand in hand with the poor seat pitch. I will avoid this plane at any cost going forward.

Seat has plenty of legroom. I enjoyed paying extra $70 for this United plus seat. I am 6'2" tall and I could recline my seat and can stretch my legs completely and have a good night's sleep. If you very tired and got a long flight, I would recommend getting an upgrade for seats in this class to have a comfortable flight.

This seat has two windows. There is a communication box on the floor limiting the leg room and floor storage. Also for some reason United seats feel more cramped that those of Delta and American. I'm 6'2" tall and my knes were against the seat back in front if me.

UA 1424, RDU -> IAD, 6/12/15. The window wasn't perfectly aligned for scenery-watching, but it wasn't unusable, either. The seat was reasonably comfortable, and the extra legroom was worth the Economy Plus upgrade price. Flew on this plane 6/7/15 EWR -> RDU. For a fairly short hop (< 2 hr) this Economy Plus seat was more than worth the upgrade. Even though I was one of the last to board (Group 5) there was still space in the overhead bin above my seat to stash my laptop bag. This was good, because the footwell was pretty narrow ... don't know if I could have jammed my bag under the seat in front of me.

At 6-1, I'm stuffed into this ridiculously small space. The leg of the seat in front of me is exactly where my right foot should be resting. I either have to put that foot in my neighbor's space or uncomfortably angle my leg so it remains in my allotted area. United's new seat fabric looks easy to clean but caused my back and butt to sweat just two hours in to the flight. As the flight attendant said when she saw me squished in my seat: "If you don't have a backache already, you will by the end of this fight."

No problems with this seat. I had adequate legroom (I am 5'8" tall.) The entertainment system was fantastic and I took advantage of the pre-flight purchase offer so saved a few dollars. This was a "red eye" flight from SFO to IAD, arriving at 0200. The hot sandwich offering was of good quality and pricing was fair. United service was fine.

This is a fairly new plane. However if seated in United's regular Economy section beware -- legroom is ideal if you are under 5 feet tall! At 6' 1" traveling for 5 hours from Atlanta to SFO was really painful! Appeared to be the same for everyone I saw in this section of the plane.

Miserable flight (EWR to SEA) jammed in seat 28A. May be worst seat pitch I've experienced, ever (and I fly a lot). At 5'8", my knees touched the hard seatback ahead, no amount of recline could give me distance enough from my 17" MacBook on the mingy tray table for me to see the full screen. If I ever want to sit in a lightly upholstered church pew again for 5+ hours, I'll book this line/aircraft. Oh: and the only way to get rid of obnoxious video ads is to press the brightness button to 0, and the flight tracker apparently is only available if you pay to activate the DirectTV.

Absolutely horrible. Much narrower than a normal seat, minimal legroom (though no worse than expected), hard back, hard bottom, and a DirecTV screen with broken brightness control so therefore couldn't be turned off - on a red-eye when I just needed to sleep. The 757 on our next leg was more humane, thankfully.

This has got to be one of the best seats on the plane. There was more leg room in this bulkhead than in first class. The wall is quite far away and with the storage under the last row of first class you still had access to your personal items. The only downsides are the tables are in the armrest and no provided meal. The meals aren't that good and I'm not that wide so I would love this seat in the future!

Sat in 7A from EWR to SAN recently and paid $109 Economy Comfort fee for doing so. While the extra legroom due to the bulkhead distance is unquestionable, the seat is uncomfortable. The curvature of the plane at this location gives you less room and makes you lean right as the armrest position is very uncomfortable. The person in 7B thought I was leaning in towards them and as a result fought me even more for the right arm rest. The legroom is unquestionable here as you can step out without disturbing anyone else in the row something you can't even do in First but I would not sit here again due to the narrowness affecting the seat comfort and the high fee.

This seat has good legroom, but the overhead contains the life rafts so you have no overhead storage. I could not put my daypack under the seat in front of me as the space was too small because of the box that protects the a/v equipment.

I have to disagree on 37A. I sat there on a recent trip and had plenty of room and was actually surprised at the amount of the recline. It was very comfortable and good views out the window without too much wing in the way. The only downside was very slight - it was the first flight of the morning so it did have a hint of lavatory smell when I first got on but I turned on the air ducts and it went away quickly. Flight crew nice and chatty - no one else wanted to move to the back on the plane so I had the entire row to myself and lots of refills on the coffee and juice from the crew. I'd sit there again.

On this flight/plane the airconditioning plenum routes on your left side. So the wall there gets very cold. Also, the fold up table does not extend very far out forward, and is not very big. My 14" Thinkpad does not fit very well on it at all.

My wife and I had 2E & 2F on a recent flight from EWR to SAN. Nice comfortable seats, although the cabin looked a little "old" and worn. Our jet had the Direct TV service, which gives you a choice of about 8 movies that have been on Pay per view for several months, plus another 15 or 20 channels of "Cable" stations, like TBS, CNN, etc.... 2F window seat has 2 windows, one at your shoulder and one in front, so you can look back backwards and forwards.
