Finnair: Children Flying Alone

What is unaccompanied minor service?

Young children traveling without a parent or legal guardian are considered unaccompanied minors. Most airlines provide a service to assist these children from their point of departure to their final destination.

What age does my child have to be to qualify as an unaccompanied minor?

Children between the ages of five and 11 may be accepted onboard as unaccompanied minos. An unaccompanied minor reservation must be made when making the flight reservation.

Though not required, children ages 12 to 17 years, who are travelling alone, are offered the same escort service that is available for those aged five to 11.

Unaccompanied minor service is not available for children under 5 years of age. A child under 5 years of age is allowed onboard only when travelling with a family member who is at least 16 years of age (unless the child is accompanied by a parent) or a non-family member, who is at least 18 years of age, as an escort provided by the child's guardian.

What are the fees associated with this service?

Contact Finnair Reservations for fee information.

Are there any restrictions?

The number of unaccompanied minors is limited to six on each flight; therefore, it is recommended that the flight be booked well in advance of the planned departure date.

Reservations for routes requiring overnight stops between scheduled flights and for the last late evening flights within Finland are not accepted for unaccompanied minors.
