Which pets are allowed to travel on LATAM Airlines?

  • Breeds of dogs and cats that are pets and are not restricted are allowed to travel on LATAM Airlines (Restricted breeds - see LATAM.com - Travel Information - Traveling with Pets - Breeds requiring special care)
  • Travel is prohibited to the following destinations:
    • Australia
    • Galapagos Islands
    • New Zealand
    • Papeete
    • United Kingdom

What methods of transport does LATAM Airlines provide for my pet?

  • Travel in the passenger cabin in an approved pet travel container.
  • Checked as baggage in pressurized and temperature controlled area of the aircraft.
  • Shipped as cargo in a pressurized and temperature controlled area.

What documentation is required for pets on LATAM Airlines flights?

You must also have a health certificate confirming that your pet is in good health. The certificate must be issued by your veterinarian up to 10 days before the flight departure.

The health authorities in the countries of your flight destination, and also any connections, might request specific documentation proving current vaccinations and a health certificate. Does my pet qualify for travel in the passenger cabin on LATAM Airlines?

Pets may travel in the cabins of the following aircraft:

  • Airbus 319
  • Airbus 320
  • Airbus 321
  • Airbus 330
  • Airbus 350
  • Boeing 777

Rules for Domestic (South America) flights:

  • Domestic pets such as dogs and cats are accepted inside the passenger cabin.
  • Pets exceeding 10 kg/22 lb (animal + kennel) cannot be transported in the cabin.
  • A reservation must be made specifically for your pet
  • A limited number of pets are permitted per flight, check availability with LATAM's Call Center.
  • For reservations, you must contact LATAM's Call Center at least 48 hours prior to the flight.
  • Upon receiving the reservation confirmation by LATAM's Call Center, you must plan to arrive for your flight at least 2 hours in advance.
  • LATAM call center:  4002-5700 (Brazil), 600 526 2000 (Chile) or 1-888-435-9526 (USA)

Rules for International Flights:

  • For international flights operated by LATAM Airlines (except to Australia, Galapagos Islands, New Zealand, Papeete, and the United Kingdom) domestic animals, such as dogs and cats, are accepted inside the passenger cabin
  • Pets exceeding 10 kg/22 lb (animal + kennel) cannot be transported inside the cabin.
  • A reservation must be made specifically for your pet
  • For reservations, you must contact LATAM's Call Center at least 48 hours prior to the flight.
  • Upon receiving the departure confirmation by LATAM's Call Center, you must plan to arrive for the flight at least 3 hours in advance.

Pets must be contained in approved pet travel containers with the following characteristics:

  • Dimensions 36 cm x 33 cm x 23 cm/14 in x 13 in x 9 in
  • Soft or hard sided
  • Have sufficient ventilation
  • Have a waterproof base
  • Have a secure closing mechanism

What are the fees associated with pet transport in the LATAM Airlines passenger cabin?

Pets approved and booked for travel in the passenger cabin will be charged the following fees*:

  • Flights within Argentina:  R$ 263/US$ 75 
  • Flights within Brazil:  R$ 200/US$ 57
  • Flights within Chile:  R$ 263/US$ 75
  • Flights within Colombia:  R$ 70/US$ 20
  • Flights within Ecuador:  R$ 158/US$ 45
  • Flights within Peru:  R$ 158/US$ 45
  • Flights between Asuncion and Ciudad del Este:  R$ 263/US$ 75
  • Flights within South America:  R$ 701/US$ 200
  • Other international flights:  R$ 876/US $250

Does my pet qualify for travel as checked baggage/hold luggage on LATAM Airlines?

Acceptable pets that meet the following qualifications may travel as checked baggage. Rules that apply follow:

  • Your itinerary does not include travel to Australia, Galapagos Islands, New Zealand, Papeete, or the United Kingdom.
  • Your pet can comfortably remain in its kennel for the entire flight.
  • The kennel meets all requirements (see below for more information) and does not exceed 94 cm x 64 cm x 61 cm/37 in x 25 in x 24 in (length x width x height) and weight of animal and kennel combined does not exceed 45 kg/100 lb (32 kg/70 lb 
  • Your pet has all necessary health documents required by your destination. The health authorities in the countries of your flight destination, and also any connections, might request specific documentation proving current vaccinations and a health certificate. You may obtain pet rule information about a country by accessing the "Country Information" section of the IATA Travel Centre by clicking here.

What are the kennel requirements for pets checked as baggage/hold luggage on LATAM Airlines?

  • Maximum dimensions 94 cm x 64 cm x 61 cm/37 in x 25 in x 24 in (length x width x height).
  • Leak-proof and escape-proof.
  • Properly ventilated, but not allow any part of the animal from protruding outside of the container.
  • Provide enough room for the animal to stand and turn around.
  • Made of metal, wood, or a hard plastic/composite.
  • Contain absorbent material or litter.
  • Have functional handles on the kennel's exterior to prevent tilting and any direct contact with the animals.
  • Close securely, but not locked.
  • Have labels with the words "Live Animal" in letters at least 1-inch tall on the crate's top and on at least one side.
  • Have upright arrow labels indicating kennel's correct position.

 

Are there any other restrictions relating to pets on LATAM Airlines flights?

LATAM Airlines may refuse to transport an animal for the following reasons:

  • Restricted breed (see LATAM.com - Travel Information - Traveling with Pets - Breeds requiring special care - for information regarding restricted breeds)
  • Illness
  • Aggressive behavior
  • Poor kenneling
  • Extreme temperatures at origin, transfer, or destination airports.
